Mother’s Journey with Her Autistic Child

The mother recounts her experience, starting from the birth of her child, which involved prolonged labor. Early on, she began to notice delays in her child’s development, especially when comparing the child to a younger grandchild in the family. Concerned, she sought help and was referred to an occupational therapist.

During the assessment, the therapist identified some physical issues, including tongue-related problems, alongside signs of autism. With time, the mother also noticed her child having frequent tantrums, which became a source of concern. She consulted the occupational therapist again, who provided her with strategies to manage the tantrums.

In addition to these challenges, the mother noticed an unusual symptom: her child experienced itchiness around the umbilical cord area while eating, which puzzled her.

Despite the support from the therapist, the mother is facing financial constraints, which are making it difficult for her to access regular therapy sessions for her child. This has added to her stress, as she knows the importance of continued intervention but struggles to afford it.

Her story highlights not only the difficulties of raising a child with special needs but also the financial barriers to accessing consistent therapy. Support systems, both emotional and financial, is very crucial in her case to ensure that her child receives adequate care.
